Dr. Robert
Stewart is widely experienced in
directing the registration of pesticides for both chemicals and biologicals for
use in agricultural, commercial and consumer markets. Dr. Stewart also advises
Task Forces and industry consortia on matters related to the registration and
defense of pesticides.
Dr. Stewart supervised an insecticide
discovery laboratory for FMC Corporation working together with synthesis
chemists and field researchers to identify successful insecticide candidates.
As a registration specialist for FMC Corporation, he managed the registrations
of active ingredients undergoing registration, reregistration, label expansion,
and experimental use permits. Dr. Stewart was also involved in trade association
issues including Delaney Clause issues, dietary risk assessment and endangered
species regulations.
As Director of Regulatory Affairs for Ecogen,
Inc., Dr. Stewart managed the contracting and oversight of studies to support
registration of microbial pesticides. He was the primary company contact with US
EPA for all registration issues. He also served as a member of the Registration
Committee of the American Crop Protection Association (ACPA) and authored ACPA's
response to the Endangered Species Program.
Dr. Stewart managed the Regulatory Affairs
Department of S.C. Johnson and Son, a major producer of consumer products. He
was responsible for a portfolio of 300 pesticide registrations and for
compliance with a variety of state and federal programs, including
Pre-Manufacture Notices, reporting and compliance under VOC content regulations,
Good Manufacturing Practice audits, interpretation of FDA's food additive and
food identity regulations, and the review of labeling and advertising for a wide
variety of consumer and commercial products. Dr. Stewart chaired a variety of
corporate committees including the Regulatory Alert Committee, Product Recall
Committee, and the Animal Facilities Inspection Committee. Dr. Stewart also
served on the Human Studies Review Committee and the Patent Review Committee.
Dr. Stewart is currently Vice President and
Managing Director of Technology Sciences Group, a multinational consulting
company that serves the chemical and food industries. He serves on the Boards
of both MTD Ventures and Technology Sciences Group. Dr. Stewart assists clients
with pesticide registrations, including chemicals, biochemicals, and microbial
pesticides, indirect and direct food additives, pesticide inert ingredients,
food supplements, GRAS self affirmations, consumer product labeling and medical
devices approvals. Dr. Stewart is currently a member of CropLife America’s
Registration Round Table and is a member of the Board of the Pest Management
Products Division of the Consumer Specialty Products Association.
Dr. Stewart received his A.B. in Entomology
from the University of Kansas, and his Ph.D. from the State University of New
York College of Environmental Science and Forestry in pesticide toxicology and
metabolism.
